SOUTH SIDE TURKEY SHOOT
South Side's annual turkey shoot is held on the last Sunday of September - rain or shine. Shooters have a variety of events to choose from which include:
archery, running deer, trap, 100 yd. bench rest, shotgun luck shoot, pistol, shotgun slug, and 50 yd. 22 cal. rifle. (If enough competitors are present, a black powder shoot at 50 yds. will be arranged.)
Eight to twelve individuals typically compete with each shoot. Winners are awarded a frozen turkey except for trap where game hens are the prize.
The shooter's fee is $2.00 per event. Festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. and usually
wrap up around 4:00 p.m. Food is available at the snack bar.
Firearm safety is strictly enforced. Spectators are welcome - make it a family day.
In the archery event shooters compete with 3 shots each at 30 yards with the highest score winning.
Try your luck at the shotgun event. 3 clay birds hit out of 3 wins a game hen.
At the 100 yard range 2 groups of 16 shooters can compete with minimal down time.
Pistol event-Total score of 3 shots wins.
Try your luck shooting at an index card with the closest BB to the "X" wins.
